Sammy Harkham Spills His Beans

ERGOT___SAMMY_HARKHAM

Over the course of the last year Sammy Harkham (one of today’s featured artists) and his comics anthology Kramers Ergot (specifically the behemoth KE7) have been responsible for thrusting some of the underground comics world’s greatest talents into the public eye. He’s like the Charles Saatchi of the comics world… or something like that. He is also the man behind the wonderful comic Crickets and graciously accepted an invitation for us to grill him about various things. Keep reading to see his responses.

Hellen Jo Answers Our Carefully Calculated Questions

hellen

Hellen Jo (one of today’s featured artists) is a great artist who lives in San Francisco and draw comics (and stuff) that primarily revolve around two themes: girls and fighting. We can’t really think of a better combination as a source of artists inspiration. Hellen also does the comic series Jin & Jam and made some video game one time. Anyway, we sent her some questions via carrier pigeon and she emailed her answers back, saying, “Why did you send the questions strapped to a bird?”

Lisa Hanawalt Let Us Ask Her Some Silly Questions

LisaOne of today’s featured artist is the lovely Lisa Hanawalt. Most of her wonderfully detailed illustrations and paintings center around anthropomorphic animals engaged in activities like trying on shoes and engaging in fisticuffs. Apparently she also used to be a child model, which is neither here nor there but we feel like telling you about it anyway. We asked her to answer a few questions about various topics, and she said “sure” like the nice lady she is. Keep reading to get the scoop on Hanawalt.

Matthew Thurber Graciously Answers a Few Inquiries

thurber

The indubitable Matthew Thurber was one of yesterday’s featured artists, and there’s no better excuse for us to badger him into answering a few questions about his existence so that’s exactly what we did. But first some background: Besides being the man behind 1-800-Mice and one-offs like Hong Kong Bong, he used to play saxophone for an instrumental band we like very much called Soiled Mattress and the Springs. Sadly, they are no more; however we urge you to check out this mind-churner of a video for “Hong Kong Bong” (yes it’s the name of a song, too). Nowadays Matthew’s musical endeavors revolve around his solo project Ambergris, which takes its namesake from the intestinal lining of a whale. That’s all we’ll say for now, but if you want to know more about Mr. Thurber head to his site.

We Asked Nicholas Gazin Seven Stupid Questions and He Answered Them

Gazin

Nicholas Gazin, today’s featured artist, is a furry, funny little man who lives in an inverted rainbow that shines above a toxic landfill full of Star Wars action figures. He also curates Vice’s Sunday comics, draws a lot of crap for us, and interviews famous people like Terry Gilliam. You can see a fine cross-section of his work here and watch his Creepy Touch show over at the Mishka bloglin. We asked him some questions about his curious existence and he answered accordingly. Keep reading to see his responses.

Benjamin Marra Answers a Few Pressing Questions

BenMarraOver the next few weeks, we’ll be dipping our fingers into our featured artists’ brains to see what kind of lunacy is going on in their heads on a day-to-day basis. First up is today’s featured artist Benjamin Marra. We asked him a few questions–both WTWTA-related and completely irrelevant. Keep reading to worm your way inside the cranium of a guy who would rather spend a month in prison than eat turnips for the rest of his life (OK, that comparison is conditional, but you’ll have to find out what those conditions are by clicking below).
